When you pull into Champion Chevrolet on Sparta Street, you’ll see rows and rows of trucks. According to owner Alex Nafe, Champion has a truck to fit everyone’s needs.
There are three different types of pickups including mid-size GMC Canyons and Chevrolet Colorados, halfton Silverados and Sierras, and heavy duty Silverado and Sierra models. “Our most popular is the half-ton Silverado,” said Alex. “Also, the new 2019 GMC Sierra has a cool MultiPro tailgate that can be set into six different configurations, including a step.
With around 30 employees, Champion has staff to help its customers every step of the way. From trained sales workforce to a full service department, Alex says his team has the expertise to perform a wide range of services. “That’s the one thing about Warren County, there are all kinds of customers,” explained Alex. “We have people who are very budget conscious and people with good incomes who can buy whatever they want so we have both ends of the spectrum. We have lots of options and we try to take care of everybody.”
Although it varies, right now, Alex says they sell around 70 vehicles a month with a few more used than new cars. Alex typically orders GM inventory twice a month. When asked about any misconceptions about coming to a dealership, Alex said he believes most people can be intimidating.
“We strive to be as transparent in the transactions as we possibly can be because you have to build rapport and trust with the customer,” said Alex. “We want to be the hometown dealership and we would like to take that stigma away. We didn’t invent the car business but we are working real hard to make it different.” Alex and his wife, Amanda, are committed to the success of the store along with this new chapter of their lives. In fact, they are currently living in a camper on the dealership.
“We bought some land and our house is getting framed up so hopefully we will be in it by February,” said Alex. “That’s still going to be 16 months in a camper, but we plan on being here a long time.” Alex says his top priorities are taking care of his people, his customers and doing the right things to grow his business.
