Corona virus continues to grow in DeKalb County

By: Angie Meadows -- Publisher for the Smithville Review

We keep hearing of a second wave of COVID-19 to come, but did the first wave truly end?  Or did we just get tired of being cooped up inside and open things up too soon?

Over 2.8 million Americans have been infected with COVID-19 with the death toll nearing 130,000.

At press time on Monday, DeKalb County had a total number of 68 positive cases, with 2,123 negative results and no deaths. 40 of the 68 who tested positive since March have recovered.  But, the number of positive cases increase daily. Which means the virus is still spreading.

At 68 cases, DeKalb County now ranks eighth highest in the 14 county Upper Cumberland region behind Putnam with 906 (7 deaths), Macon 487 (4 deaths), Cumberland 183 (4 deaths), Smith 122 (1 death), Warren 78, and White 73 (3 deaths). Other counties in the region with COVID-19 cases are Overton 63 (1 death), Cannon 37, Jackson 29, Fentress 23, Clay 18, Van Buren 7, and Pickett 6.
