in Putnam County, TN Ficosa North America announced furloughs at the Shelbyville, Kentucky, and Cookeville facilities last week and plans are in place for those to last until May. “Due to the economic impact of COVID-19, Ficosa North America has placed all factory line workers at the company’s manufacturing facilities in Shelbyville, Kentucky, and Cookeville, Tennessee on temporary furlough,” said Fred Zicard, vice president of Ficosa North America in a statement.
According to Zicard's statement, many Ficosa customers have shut down production lines, which has reduced the demand for the company's products. They expect their customers to resume production on May 4.
“We plan to begin calling employees back to work at both facilities on May 1,” Zicard said. At the time of the initial announcement of the furloughs, it was unclear who was affected and how long those furloughs would last. The company confirmed in a statement Friday that the layoffs for facilities will last until May 1.
The $50 million Cookeville facility opened in 2016, following the closure of the Crossville facility and employs over 600 people, according to Cookeville-Putnam County Chamber data.
