Feb. 1, 2020 It was short and certainly very sweet. The Little Chocolate Shop in Spencer shut its doors for its last day Saturday after a little more than a year in business. The store announced its closing on its Facebook page. The online post said, “You know, life is a funny thing. It rarely pays much attention to our scripts. This Saturday is going to be the last day for the Little Chocolate Shop … It’s been a wonderful, albeit short ride, and we thank all of you for all of your love and support.”
Shop owners David and Leslie Senk gained attention when they resurrected the historic Haston Block building on Spencer’s Court Square and transformed it into a chocolate shop. Their brand name was Arête Fine Chocolate.
David didn’t rule out rekindling the Arête brand name at some point but said there would probably be a break of about a year or so.
The chocolate was produced on site on the first floor of the Haston building. That’s where select cocoa beans were melted and molded into a chocolate that produced mouth-watering delight.
The second floor of the building served as their residence.
