A man was killed Saturday night when his motorcycle crossed into oncoming traffic.
The man, William Lee Vaughn, 32, died from injuries he sustained in a crash on Great Falls Road at approximately 7:30 p.m. on June 27.
According to state trooper Andrew Coppinger, Vaughn was traveling outbound when he failed to navigate a curve in the area of Kings Landing Road. The Warren County resident was leaving Rock Island State Park.
“He had just passed the entrance to Rock Island State Park at Beach Road and was heading in the direction of Bybee Chapel Road,” said Coppinger. “He crossed into the other lane of traffic and struck a Buick on its driver’s side. That vehicle was in its lane of travel. The impact caused the motorcycle to veer back into its lane and onto the shoulder of the road.”
The Buick was driven by Shawn Justin Lee Earls, 20, of Warren County. Earls was evaluated at the scene by Warren County EMS, but not transported for medical treatment.
Several witnesses reported what they saw just before the crash.
“We have multiple witnesses saying that Vaughn was driving recklessly, passing people on the roadway,” said Coppinger. “He wasn’t wearing a helmet.”
Vaughn was airlifted to Erlanger, but succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.
The accident marks the second Warren County traffic fatality in 2020. That’s two less than at this point last year, according to the Highway Patrol.
