TBI investigating deadly local shooting
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is currently investigating a shooting that left a man dead Thursday, June 25.
Sheriff Patrick Ray issued the following statement about the case.
On June 25, 2020, at 12:28 p.m. Central Dispatch received a call of a shooting on Carter Drive in Smithville. This residence is located just outside of the city limits, approximately 240 yards, in the county. The caller stated someone had been shot. When units from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department and the Smithville Police Department arrived on the scene, they found one man lying on the front porch of a residence that had gunshot wounds. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The District Attorney’s Office and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation were notified and arrived on the scene a short time later.
Though the investigation, it appears the home owner and the deceased man exchanged gunfire and the homeowner shot the deceased man. The homeowner was not injured. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting. The deceased man’s identity has not been released.
No arrests have been made.
