A local man lost his life Monday morning due to an accident at Bridgestone.
Beau Christopher Lowe, 33, of Morrison was killed when he was struck by a heavy mold, according to the Warren County Sheriff’s Department.
Based on the preliminary investigation, it appears a bolt broke on a steel mold weighing between 1,400 and 2,000 pounds. The mold then fell on Mr. Lowe. The accident happened around 8 a.m.
“At Bridgestone Americas, the well-being and safety of our employees, contractors, and visitors is our most important value,” said Bridgestone in a statement. “On Monday, June 8, a contractor who worked at our Warren County Truck and Bus Radial Tire Plant passed away following an accident at the facility. We are currently investigating the situation. At this time, we do not have any further details about this incident. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family, friends and co-workers at our Warren County operation. Counseling is being made available for those in need of support.”
Bridgestone says Mr. Lowe’s death is the second fatality at the local plant since it began operation over 30 years ago. Bridgestone affiliate locations are located in Smyrna and La Vergne and Murfreesboro.
United Steelworkers Local 1155 is the union which represents Bridgestone workers. The union declined to comment when asked about possible safety issues at the local plant.
Mr. Lowe was described as well-liked and friendly. He enjoyed fishing, playing softball and was dedicated to his family and his church.
He is survived by a wife, two daughters, his parents and other family members. High Funeral Home will be handling arrangements, which were incomplete at press time.
